Very Specific Library Rules

From MentalFloss.com, one of my favorite sites, comes this article: 9 Very Specific Rules from Real Libraries.

We've all seen signs banning cell phones, food, and drinks. But these rules cover issues that might not be common to all libraries.

1. Keep the door closed due to bats.

2.  No Balloons

There are more, but my personal favorite since I know many people who do this.

# 8. No re-shelving, even by library majors

Read the rest HERE. Any interesting rules at your local library? Don't forget to read the comments at the end of the article!

I was surprised no ink allowed in British libraries. Never seen a sign like that in Canada, although it does make sense.

I never follow the "Please do not reshelve materials" rule. And frankly I don't get it. It only leads to piles and piles of books on tables. It's no wonder people are always complaining they can rarely find something that according to the computer catalog is supposed to be on a shelf. Besides, in my local branch of the CPL the people whose job it is to shelve don't know how to do it. I consistently find books shelved by the title! At least I put the books back where they can be properly found by others.

I clicked on the link, read the post and read ALL the comments. Now I understand the no reshelving rule. I may just start pulling old out of print mysteries off the shelves and leave them on the tables just to show how popular they are and get them added to the usage statistics. I may end up saving them! They tend to get culled and pulped.
