Frank Thornton aka Mr. Peacock: R.I.P.

The Guardian reports that the actor Frank Thornton has died at the age of 92. Thornton had a flair for comedy derived from the subtle craftsmanship of classical stage work. However, he will be best remembered for his longstanding characters in two popular BBC television comedy series – the sniffily priggish Captain Peacock in Are You Being Served? and the pompous retired policeman Herbert "Truly" Truelove, in Roy Clarke's Last of the Summer Wine.

I loved Frank Thornton in He was perfect, as were all of the other leads. What giggles I got from this series!

Mr. Thornton was wonderful. His style of comedy, and that of his peers, is something we don't have anymore. This is a time that has gone by.

I am saddened to hear that the man who acted Captain Peacock is gone.
