The North American Branch of the International Association of Crime Writers announced the nominees for their annual HAMMETT PRIZE for a work of literary excellence in the field of crime writing by a US or Canadian author.
The nominees are as follows:
The Marsh King’s Daughter: A Novel, by Karen Dionne (G. P. Putnam’s Sons)
The Tragedy of Brady Sims: A Novel, by Ernest J. Gaines (Vintage)
August Snow, by Stephen Mack Jones (Soho Crime)
Two Days Gone: A Novel, by Randall Silvis (Sourcebooks Landmark)
The organization will name the HAMMETT PRIZE winner, during the NoirCon conference in Philadelphia, November 1-4. The winner will receive a bronze trophy, designed by sculptor Peter Boiger.
I liked August Snow a lot. Time to go read some others!
ReplyDeleteI liked Two Days Gone and enjoyed the author interview at the end of the book. His agent told him that the book was too well written to market as a mystery and the plot too strong to market as literary fiction. Silvis replied that it was a literary mystery, to which the agent replied, "there is no such thing". Silvis's reply: "That's why I wrote one!"
