KAREN PIRIE, Season 2 News!

Karen Pirie, Season 2 will be released in the U.S. on BritBox Thursday, October 2. I really enjoyed the first season, and I'm looking forward to this next installment. Episodes will be released weekly. Sadly there are only 3 episodes. Finale will air on October 16. Lauren Lyle plays Karen Pirie.

After being promoted to Scotland's Historic Cases Unit, DS Karen Pirie reopens the cold case of a murdered barmaid; her investigation unearths flaws in the original 1984 inquiry. From the award-winning producers of Line of Duty and Bodyguard, Karen Pirie follows young, newly promoted DS Karen Pirie (Lauren Lyle) as she reopens this cold case. Based on the novel by best-selling author Val McDermid.

Karen Pirie, Season 2 News

Good news! Karen Pirie, Season 2, has started filming in Scotland. It will be a three episode season based on Val McDermid's A Darker Domain. Lauren Lyle returns as Karen Pirie.

Lauren Lyle's portrayal of Karen Pirie has received critical acclaim. She was awarded the Best Actress in Television and Audience Award for Favorite Scot on Screen at BAFTA Scotland.

Plot summary of Season 2 (A Darker Domain): In 1984, when young Catriona Grant, heiress to the Grant oil fortune, is kidnapped at gunpoint with her young son, it is assumed that the motivation is political. The huge investigation creates a press storm, but when the culprits unexpectedly fall silent, the case runs cold and Catriona and her son are never seen again. Forty years later, when a man’s body is discovered, Pirie is assigned to reopen the case in complete secrecy.

Karen Pirie, Season 1, is available on BritBox

KAREN PIRIE SEASON 2 NEWS

Good news:
There will be a second series of Karen Pirie, starring Lauren Lyle and adapted by Emer Kenny! Series Two will be based on A Darker Domain, the second in the internationally bestselling Karen Pirie novels, written by Val McDermid.  Lauren Lyle will again star as the young and fearless Scottish investigator with a quick mouth and tenacious desire for the truth. The bad news is that the series won't start filming until early 2024. Who knows when the show will reach the U.S.

Lauren Lyle:
“I'm thrilled that we will continue the life of our fearless young detective Karen Pirie, and of course, her bumbag. I've known for a while how well the show has gone down behind the scenes so it's been a joy to see audiences want more. It's a creative honour to work alongside Emer Kenny with the backbone of Val McDermid's story, season one was incredibly exciting building an original character we hadn't seen before. I look forward to getting the gang back together and finally being able to answer the question: ‘Please say there will be a season two?’ with an ‘Oh yes.’

Val McDermid:
“I know the millions of viewers all over the world who loved the first Karen Pirie series will be as thrilled at this news as I am. I can't wait to see how the team bring the next book, A Darker Domain, to life!”
Filming will commence in Scotland during early 2024 and details of further casting and key production personnel will be advised in the coming months.

KARIN PIRIE, Season 2 news

Great news! ITV has commissioned series 2 of Karen Pirie, starring Lauren Lyle and adapted by Emer Kenny
The second series is based on Val McDermid’s A Darker Domain, and produced by World Productions.
In the second season, Karen reopens the investigation into the unsolved kidnap of a wealthy young heiress and her baby son back in 1985.

I loved Season One. Go, Val! So happy to see there will be a second series, and hopefully more!

Emer Kenny will return to write and executive produce the episodes along with Scottish writer Gillian Roger Park. Karen Pirie will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK. Season One is available on Britbox in the US, so probably Season 2 will air there, as well.

Filming will begin in Scotland in early 2024 and details of further casting and key production personnel will be advised in the coming months. Oh my. That's a long way off, but still....Of course, you can always read the novel by Val McDermid and the others in the series now.
