With the Oscar Awards coming up tomorrow night, I thought I'd revisit the Top 100 Crime Movies of All Time, according to the Masters in Criminal Justice website. Hard to believe Chinatown isn't on this list; it's a classic noir mystery film and won an Academy Award for best original screenplay.
I missed your comment about the list not including the classic noir films, but I'm not sure I'd include Chinatown among those. I think Chinatown is more of a suspenseful whodunit with noir overtones. Regardless, it is — in my opinion, of course — one of the best crime films of the late 20th century.
It would be right up in my top 10..
Janet,
I'd add some Comic/Farce crime films to the list, like the Pink Panther series, and Foul Play.
