Mother's Day: So many Mothers in Mysteries, but the following is a sampling with emphasis on the Mother's Day Holiday. Mothering Sunday by Ian McEwan is another book that isn't exactly a mystery but could fit in here.

Another great list, Janet! When you asked the question "favorite mother," who popped into my mind was not a mother but someone who longed to be one, French Police Commissaire Jules Maigret's wife known only as Madame Maigret. The novels are infused with her longing-regret for a child and the reason they are childless is never explained. Best experienced in "Maigret's Christmas."
