Rebecka Martinsson: Series I: AcornTV

REBECKA MARTINSSON, Series 1 (Exclusive U.S. Premiere, Foreign Language) will start on Monday, November 6 on AcornTV.

Rebecka Martinsson is an 8-part drama series based on Åsa Larsson's celebrated and popular crime novels. The series takes place in the bleak Northern Environment and revolves around Rebecka Martinsson (Ida Engvoll) a lawyer from Kiruna. Despite her professional success as a top lawyer in Stockholm, Rebecka still hasn’t found herself. When a dear friend from childhood suddenly passes away, Rebecka reluctantly returns to her hometown, but soon it becomes obvious that not everything is as it seems. The death of her friend becomes more and more suspicious, and Rebecka cannot tear herself away until she finds answers. Drawn into the gripping pursuit of a killer on the hunt for the next victim, Rebecka is forced to confront the terrible trauma that caused her to abandon her hometown.

Asa Larsson discusses Female Victims in Crime Fiction

Swedish writer Asa Larsson, author of the the Rebecka Martinsson mysteries, addresses why there are more women victims in crime fiction.  This appeared in the Huffington Post. HERE

It has come to my attention that people are grumbling about how Swedish crime writers murder piles of women in their books. As a Swedish author of crime fiction, I instinctively want to raise my hand and call out, "Not me! Not me!" It's a problem that I've always carefully considered.

MORE CRIME FICTION/MYSTERY AWARDS

Thanks to J. Kingston Pierce at The Rap Sheet, I heard about the winners of the following two awards that were given out last week. Thanks also to the original sources for reporting them.

Broken Harbour by Tana French, won the 2012 Irish Book Award in the Crime Novel category. Runners Up: Slaughter’s Hound Declan Burke; Vengeance by Benjamin Black; The Istanbul Puzzle by Laurence O’Bryan; Too Close for Comfort by Niamh O’Connor; and Red Ribbons by Louise Phillips.


Åsa Larsson’s Till offer åt Molok won the Swedish Crime Academy’s 2012 award for Best Swedish Crime Novel.  Peter Robinson’s Before the Poison won the Academy’s Best Foreign Crime Novel prize.
