Bony Blithe/Bloody Words Light Mystery Award 2021

The Bony Blithe is an annual Canadian award celebrating traditional, feel-good mysteries. Now in its 10th year, the award includes everything from laugh-out-loud to gentle humour to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore – in short, books that are fun to read.

Bony Blithe will be retiring and the 2021 award is the final one. There will be a Bony Blithe newsletter called Bare Bones which will be about the world of light mysteries

 

There is still the intent to have an event to celebrate the 2021 Bony Blithe winners as well as Bony Blithe's 10th birthday, but no exact plans yet.

As announced in March, the 2021 Bloody Words Mini-con/Bony Blithe Award Dinner, originally scheduled for Friday, May 28. However, they will be announcing the 2021 Bony Blithe winner online on May 28 , so watch for an email or check Facebook or the Bony Blithe Website

Bony Blithe is pleased to announce the winner of the 2020 Bloody Words Light Mystery Award, a literary award for books that make us smile.
Liz Freeland for Murder in Midtown (Kensington Books)
Murder in Midtown, the second book in Liz’s Louise Faulk historical mystery series, is set in 1913 New York City. The story brings together the highest and lowest of NYC’s denizens as Louise works to solve a particularly nasty murder, all the while risking her newly acquired position as a novice NYC policewoman.
The Bony Blithe is an annual Canadian award that celebrates traditional, feel-good mysteries announce this year’s winner. Now in its sixth year, the award is for a “mystery book that makes us smile” and includes everything from laugh-out-loud to gentle humour to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore – in short, books that are fun to read.
Because of Covid-19, the Bloody Words mini-con/Bony Blithe Award gala was cancelled. However, the mini-con/award gala will be back next year at the High Park Club in Toronto with a double award presentation: the 2020 award to Liz and the 2021 award.

Now in its sixth year, this award is for a “mystery book that makes us smile” and includes everything from laugh-out-loud to gentle humor to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore – in short, books that are fun to read.

Elizabeth J. Duncan for Murder on the Hour (St. Martin’s Press)

Elizabeth J. Duncan will receive a cheque for $1,000 plus a colourful plaque.

Now in its sixth year, the award is for a “mystery book that makes us smile” and includes everything from laugh-out-loud to gentle humour to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore – in short, books that are fun to read.

Bony Blithe Light Mystery Award

The Bloody Words Light Mystery Award (aka the Bony Blithe Award), the annual Canadian award that celebrates traditional, feel-good mysteries announced that Victoria Abbott has won the 2016 award for The Marsh Madness, published by Berkley Prime Crime.

Now in its fifth year, the award is for a “mystery book that makes us smile” and includes everything from laugh-out-loud to gentle humor to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore.

Victoria Abbott is the nom de plume for the mother-daughter writing team of Mary Jane Maffini and Victoria Maffini. Both mother and daughter live in Ottawa, ON.

Murder Is Nothing to Have Fun With...Or Is It? Light Mystery Award Announces Finalists 

The Bloody Words Light Mystery Award, an annual Canadian award that celebrates traditional, feel-good mysteries has announced this year’s finalists. The award – aka the Bony Blithe – is for a “book that makes us smile,” which includes everything from laugh-out-loud to gentle humour to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore.

The judges came up with five books for this year’s shortlist.
The five finalists for the 2014 Bony Blithe Award are:

Finalist 2… Framed for Murder by Cathy Spencer (Comely Press)
Finalist 3… Thread and Buried by Janet Bolin (Berkely Prime Crime)

Finalist 5…Miss Montreal by Howard Shrier (Vintage)

The award will be presented at the Bloody Words Mystery Conference gala banquet on Saturday, June 7, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 370 King St. W., Toronto. 

The winner will receive a cheque for $1000 plus a colourful plaque.

Bloody Words, the Canadian crime-fiction convention, has announced its nominees for a new annual award, the Light Mystery Award. This prize “celebrates traditional, feel-good mysteries ... The award--aka the Bony Blithe--is for a ‘book that makes us smile,’ which includes everything from laugh-out-loud, to gentle humour, to good old-fashioned stories with little violence or gore.”
