The North American Branch of the International Association of Crime Writers announced the nominees for their annual HAMMETT PRIZE for a work of literary excellence in the field of crime writing by a US or Canadian author.
The nominees are as follows:
The Marsh King’s Daughter: A Novel, by Karen Dionne (G. P. Putnam’s Sons)
The Tragedy of Brady Sims: A Novel, by Ernest J. Gaines (Vintage)
August Snow, by Stephen Mack Jones (Soho Crime)
Two Days Gone: A Novel, by Randall Silvis (Sourcebooks Landmark)
The organization will name the HAMMETT PRIZE winner, during the NoirCon conference in Philadelphia, November 1-4. The winner will receive a bronze trophy, designed by sculptor Peter Boiger.

I liked August Snow a lot. Time to go read some others!
I liked Two Days Gone and enjoyed the author interview at the end of the book. His agent told him that the book was too well written to market as a mystery and the plot too strong to market as literary fiction. Silvis replied that it was a literary mystery, to which the agent replied, "there is no such thing". Silvis's reply: "That's why I wrote one!"
Finally, a true literary mystery in the running... Two Days Gone is spellbinding AND gorgeously written..Randall Silvis should take home the statue!
