Grace: Season 5 issues (Britbox)

I wrote this awhile ago, but never posted. As I'm looking for distractions from the present day world, I thought I'd post it now, especially since there are updates. Love to hear your comments.

Written: January 8:

Well, I had the British Mystery series Grace, based on Peter James' award-winning crime fiction, featuring detective Roy Grace, Season 5, on my list to watch Thursday night, January 8. I sat down all ready to watch Season 5, episode 1, on Britbox through Prime Video. I was dismayed and angry to learn that it was not yet available So I began searching as to why it was not available on my streaming vehicle. What I found, after a rather long search through various British Mystery sites and Reddit, was that Grace, Series 5, will start on Prime Video Britbox on February 5. Why?? Well, Episode 1 did air January 8 on Britbox Premier. No explanation. I thought I would have to change things up and order Britbox directly (I get Britbox through Prime). But oh no! Britbox now has two tiers. Premier and 'regular'.. And guess what? Premier costs more. $149.99/yr as opposed to $89.99 year. Premier Tier is only available for Direct Subscribe. This gives you early access. I really do like Britbox. Many of my favorite shows are on it. But -- this is putting me off big time. Grumble, grumble. I know there are so many more important issues in the world, but just thought I'd let you know what I think.

However, you might want to know when it will air, in case you, too, were expecting it, on February 5. Britbox though Prime, and probably on the regular Britbox tier directly. We'll see. There are only 4 episodes, and I imagine they'll drop one a week.

And, the good news is that Season 6 is already filming.

Grace, Season 4, news

Grace, Season 4, premieres July 2 on BritBox. Detective Roy Grace tackles four dangerous crimes in the new series. Yes, only 4 episodes, but they're all feature length.

  • “Dead Man’s Time“: A massive amount of jewels and valuables is stolen from a mansion in Brighton, leaving the lonely elderly resident close to death.
  • “Want You Dead“: In one of their most unusual cases yet, two victims are found who both died in similarly bizarre circumstances. The post-mortem brings up more questions than answers.
  • “You Are Dead”: A woman vanishes in broad daylight without a trace from an underground car park. Elsewhere, the remains of another young woman are discovered. Is there a connection?
  • “Love You Dead“: A known Brighton burglar is found dead in his car, and though his wife claims he had turned over a new leaf, he might have been active the night he was killed.

Grace, based on the gripping Roy Grace novels by Peter James, follows the trials and tribulations of the talented yet haunted Detective Superintendent Roy Grace (John Simm), still reeling from the disappearance of his wife, Sandy, years earlier.

If you want to catch up on the series, Grace seasons 1-3 is still available on BritBox.

Peter James, author of the Roy Grace novels has a new mystery coming out this July:  THEY THOUGHT I WAS DEAD. I can't wait for this one. Definitely a spin on the series

This new companion to James’ detective Roy Grace series allows Sandy (the much-talked- yet little-heard-from character) speak for herself starting on the day she vanished on her husband's thirtieth birthday. The story follows Sandy as she decides that “I no longer exist” in the eyes of those around her and follows her on her journey to a place where people will believe her dead.

GRACE, Season 3 release date

I've been waiting impatiently for Season 3 of Grace, especially after the Season 2 finale cliffhanger. Well the wait it almost over: Grace: Season 3, premieres in the U.S. a week from today-- Thursday, April 20, on BritBox. Roy Grace and his partner Glenn Branson return to solve more cases in Brighton.

The series is adapted from Peter James's Roy Grace series. Eight books have now been translated to the screen. There are 19 books in the series, so hopefully we'll see more TV seasons!

John Simm stars as DS Roy Grace. As with Season 2, Season 3 consists of three feature-length stories adapted from the novels, all set in and around the seaside city of Brighton in East Sussex.

PETER JAMES' GRACE on Britbox in April

From Deadline:

Britbox, the BBC and ITV’s joint-venture streamer, has acquired ITV’s John Simm drama Grace for the U.S. and Canada. The service will premiere the drama on April 27.

Told as two feature-length episodes, Grace is an adaptation of Peter James’ Roy Grace crime novels from Endeavour creator Russell Lewis. It is a co-production between Jekyll & Hyde producer Tall Story Pictures, Second Act Productions, and Derren Brown’s Vaudeville Productions.

It is based on James’ first two Roy Grace books Dead Simple and Looking Good Dead, which introduce Brighton-based Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a hard-working police officer who has given his life to the job.
