Grace: Season 5 issues (Britbox)

I wrote this awhile ago, but never posted. As I'm looking for distractions from the present day world, I thought I'd post it now, especially since there are updates. Love to hear your comments.

Written: January 8:

Well, I had the British Mystery series Grace, based on Peter James' award-winning crime fiction, featuring detective Roy Grace, Season 5, on my list to watch Thursday night, January 8. I sat down all ready to watch Season 5, episode 1, on Britbox through Prime Video. I was dismayed and angry to learn that it was not yet available So I began searching as to why it was not available on my streaming vehicle. What I found, after a rather long search through various British Mystery sites and Reddit, was that Grace, Series 5, will start on Prime Video Britbox on February 5. Why?? Well, Episode 1 did air January 8 on Britbox Premier. No explanation. I thought I would have to change things up and order Britbox directly (I get Britbox through Prime). But oh no! Britbox now has two tiers. Premier and 'regular'.. And guess what? Premier costs more. $149.99/yr as opposed to $89.99 year. Premier Tier is only available for Direct Subscribe. This gives you early access. I really do like Britbox. Many of my favorite shows are on it. But -- this is putting me off big time. Grumble, grumble. I know there are so many more important issues in the world, but just thought I'd let you know what I think.

However, you might want to know when it will air, in case you, too, were expecting it, on February 5. Britbox though Prime, and probably on the regular Britbox tier directly. We'll see. There are only 4 episodes, and I imagine they'll drop one a week.

And, the good news is that Season 6 is already filming.

Slow Horses, Season 5

Slow Horses, based on Mick Herron's Slough House series, Season 5, is now available on Apple TV+. What a great show! This amazing spy drama follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents--and their obnoxious boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman)--as they navigate the espionage works smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces. The show is filled with humor, as well as gore. It's topnotch!

If you're new to the series, you'll want to start with Season 1. And be sure to read Mick Herron's Slough House Thrillers. They're great. He is such a terrific writer.

Shakespeare & Hathaway: Season 5 news!

Hot off the presses!
The BBC website announced today that Season Five of Shakespeare & Hathaway has started filming with Jo Joyner, Mark Benton & Patrick Walshe McBride. The new series, produced by BBC Studios Drama Productions in Birmingham, is a co-commission by BBC Content and UKTV, and will premiere exclusively on UKTV’s specialist crime drama channel, Alibi next year before launching later on the BBC and iPlayer in the U.K. (BritBox has aired Shakespeare & Hathaway in the U.S., so I can only surmise it will pick up Series 5 ). Series one to four are available on Britbox now.

Created by Paul Matthew Thompson and the late Jude Tindall, the series follows an unlikely pair of private investigators, hardboiled ex-cop Frank Hathaway (Benton), and warm-hearted ex-hairdresser Lu Shakespeare (Joyner), as they work the cobbled streets of Stratford-upon-Avon, solving thrilling cases and murders most foul.

UNFORGOTTEN, Season 5, Starts Sunday, September 3

Just a reminder, Unforgotten, Season 5, starts Sunday, September 3 at 9:00 p.m.  on MASTERPIECE  on PBS. Watch on air, online, and on the free PBS app.

This award-winning cold case crime drama follows veteran London detectives who uncover the truth behind tangled, complicated murders from the past. The new season sees DI Sunny Khan’s (Sanjeev Bhaskar) loyal and hard-working investigations team back to work and attempting to get along with a new and all too business-like DCI Jessica James (Sinéad Keenan). Jess’s first case is the discovery of human remains in a newly renovated period property in Hammersmith, London. But how long have they been there and is this a murder dating back to the 1930’s or has the body been disposed of in more recent times?

You can catch up with full episodes of Seasons 1 through 4 streaming now on PBS Passport.

Of course, I'll miss Nicola Walker, but I'm sure it will be a great season.

Here's the trailer.
