MIDSOMER MURDERS, SEASON 24, starts today!

Just a Reminder: Midsomer Murders, Season 24 Starts Today!!! Enjoy. Alas, only 4 episodes.

I love Midsomer Murders, and I confess that I've seen the entire series at least twice, probably more. Midsomer Murders is a quirky series with  imaginative murder scenes and weapons. If that sounds dark, I will tell you it isn't. I think of this series as one of the best mystery series on TV..not gritty, not scary.. just great acting, lovely scenery, and plots. Of course, I wouldn't want to live in the county of Midsomer. Way too many murders for my taste. It's  Cabot Cove on steroids.

Midsomer Murders, Season 24, premieres on AcornTV on December 4.

Midsomer Murders is one of the longest-running mysteries currently still airing. It first aired in 1997 (first with John Nettles as DCI Tom Barnaby, then with Neil Dudgeon as DCI John Barnaby). The series is based on Caroline Graham's Chief Inspector Barnaby novels. The series is set in the fictional Midsomer County, and follows two different DCI Barnabys as they solve quirky murders occurring in lovely small villages. It's mystery 'lite',  and the murders often require some suspension of disbelief. I'm o.k. with that.

Midsomer Murders: Season 23 premier date!

Good News!

Midsomer Murders: Series 23 premieres in North America on Acorn.tv on December 12th.

Homicide, blackmail, greed, and betrayal: just a taste of what goes on behind the well-trimmed hedges of Midsomer County in this deliciously sinister series. But the culprits are no match for DCI Tom Barnaby (John Nettles, Bergerac); his successor upon retirement, DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon, Life of Riley); and their assistants.

I can't wait. I love this series. I've seen it all the way through at least twice..some episodes more than twice. Just an FYI: I saw the Series 23 premiere date on Acorn.tv and one other place, but I haven't found much out about the series itself. I'll update if this information proves wrong.

ACORN TV: CANNES CONFIDENTIAL

From Deadline:

AMC streamer Acorn TV has unveiled its second original in the space of a week, boarding the crime drama Cannes Confidential.

Penned by Midsomer Murders and Van der Valk writer Chris Murray, the eight-part series is a romantic procedural that blends comedy, mystery and crime detection with a heart-warming love story — all against the backdrop of the Cote d’Azur.

Deadline first revealed that Murray — who has also written for Acorn series Agatha Raisin — was working on the project through Dramacorp, the Stockholm-based production company founded by Patrick Nebout, part of Jan Mojto’s Beta Film. Maria Ward (Agatha Raisin) is co-writing the series. Acorn Media Enterprises is co-producing.

Acorn is billing Cannes Confidential as the first English-language procedural drama to be produced and set on the Cote d’Azur since the 1970s action-adventure comedy The Persuaders, starring Roger Moore and Tony Curtis. Production will begin in Cannes in early 2021.

“With its engaging, blue sky script and beautiful setting, Cannes Confidential is the kind of program the world could use right now and is sure to entertain Acorn TV subscribers worldwide,” said Catherine Mackin, managing director of Acorn Media Enterprises.

Dramacorp COO Nebout added: “Chris Murray has a genius for creating deeply loved and witty characters and stories that run and run. The setting of Cannes Confidential is upbeat, colourful and spectacular, the wittiness is there, yet Chris and Maria are developing multi-layered main characters and strong emotional arcs, taking the procedural genre into a more elevated and romantic direction.”
Nebout executive produces alongside Henrik Jansson-Schweizer. The series will premiere on Acorn TV in North America, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK next year.

Midsomer Murders, Series 20, US Premiere Today on AcornTV

In a May surprise for British mystery fans, Acorn TV announced today’s U.S. Premiere of the 20th season of one of the longest running and most popular series in British television history. Midsomer Murders, Series 20 is now available to subscribers.

The 20th Season of the smash hit series features six brand-new feature-length mysteries: The Ghost of Causton Abbey, Death of the Small Coppers, Drawing Dead, The Lions of Causton, ‘Til Death Do Us Part, and Send in the Clowns. Earlier today, Acorn TV received the go ahead to premiere the series as soon as possible, so they added it immediately for fans to enjoy.

Called “Phenomenally enjoyable… this show has only gotten better and better through the years” (Paper magazine) and easily one of the world’s most popular detective series, Midsomer Murders has entertained audiences for more than two decades. Inspired by the novels of Caroline Graham, modern master of the English village mystery, the ongoing series stars Neil Dudgeon as Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby. Homicide, blackmail, greed, and betrayal are just a taste of what goes on behind the well-trimmed hedges of Midsomer County.

Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix, The Crown, Marcella) investigate the cozy villages of Midsomer’s most sinister secrets. Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter), Acorn TV is North America’s most popular streaming service focused on British and international television from RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE).

Episodes:
The Ghost of Causton Abbey: Causton is buzzing at the opening of a new brewery on the site of a famously cursed Abbey. But excitement turns to fear when a man is found boiled to death in one of the vats.

Death of the Small Coppers: When a butterfly collector and founding member of an elite IQ society is found murdered, DCI Barnaby and DS Winter are thrust into a crime that impacts not only on their community, but internationally.

Drawing Dead: Carver Valley’s comic festival is in full swing when the village is shocked by the murder of a former supermodel. With a scathing comic shaming several villagers as the only lead, Barnaby and Winter are left trying to separate fact from fiction.
The Lions of Causton: Barnaby gets to relive his former days of sporting glory when a death at the local Rugby Club sends Barnaby and Winter into a muddle of rucks and old grudges.

‘Til Death Do Us Part: Barnaby is less than impressed when Sarah drags him to a family friend’s wedding. But things soon go from bad to worse when tragedy strikes, and Barnaby is called into action to catch a murderer with an apparent penchant for local brides.

Send in the Clowns: Things take a gruesome turn when the circus comes to town, bringing with it a chain of sinister clown sightings, threatening notes and deathly dangerous circus acts.

Acorn TV: Midsomer Murders, Series 19, Part 2

If you're like me, you felt short-changed by Midsomer Murders, Series 19, Part 1 that aired on AcornTV recently. There were only 4 episodes. But now, starting July 17, there will be 2 more episodes. AcornTV is calling it Midsomer Murders, Series 19, Part 2. Not sure why there was a delay or why there are only 2 episodes this time around, but I've seen them both, and they're great. O.K. this series can never go wrong in my opinion. It's so entertaining, and I enjoy the 'guest' stars. The two new feature-length episodes include Death by Persuasion and The Curse of the Ninth. They both star Neil Dudgeon as Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby.

Season 19 Midsomer Murders on AcornTV

I've just watched Season 19 of Midsomer Murders, one of my favorite long-running series. Loved all four episodes. Only wish there were more.

Midsomer Murders returns to AcornTV on March 6 with four new feature-length episodes set in England’s most murderous county.  Let's face it, you don't want to live there! People are always dying, and in unique ways.

The capable Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and new assistant DS Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix) investigate the cozy villages of Midsomer’s most sinister secrets, including a murder in a ghost village and a body found covered in rabbits at a local pet show.

DS Ben Jones (Jason Hughes) returns in a guest appearance in Episode 3 as Barnaby and Winter investigate the death of a star cricketer. Also guest starring Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly), Susan Hampshire (The First Churchills, Monarch of the Glen), Natasha Little (The Night Manager), and more.

Series 1-18 of Midsomer Murders now streaming on Acorn TV. Catch up before Series 19, Part 1 premieres.

Midsomer Murders Episode Guide

I'm a big fan of Midsomer Murders, and I have been watching all the episodes again--this time in order (streaming on Netflix). There are more episodes to come (since we live in the USA) which is heartening, albeit the new ones are without John Nettles. I've loved watching the changes in the style and various 'sidekicks' throughout the many episodes. Warning: Don't move to Midsomer! Every town and village seems to be losing citizens right and left!

So for those who 'need' to know, and I count myself among them, here's a link to a website that lists all the episodes in order. You can click on the individual episode titles for synopsis, location photos, and the occasional actor's interview (particularly for the more recent episodes.)
