THREE PINES TV SERIES STARTS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2

Watch the Three Pines Amazon Prime trailer.. The first two episodes will air this Friday, December 2 on Amazon Prime. Need to do something before the show? Read Louise Penny's latest novel, A World of Curiosities. It's a great read. It has it all: Ganache, Three Pines, all the supporting characters, art, food, a locked room, detection, and so much more. I think it's Louise's best yet!

Want to subscribe to the Notes from Three Pines Newsletter? Nancy Reddy's latest issue had lots of food descriptions from the books.

And/Or:

The Louise Penny Newsletter:

And a note from Louise Penny about the TV series:

Here's the trailer for the Three Pines TV series. In the midst of this fun one-minute trailer you might notice that the “Ruth” character describes Three Pines as a place that will expel people who don’t belong. I need to make clear that I fought and fought to have that line changed in the show. It is, as you know, the antithesis of what Three Pines is about. The fact it was not only left it in, but is now highlighted is troubling on so many levels.

It makes me wonder if they understand the heart and soul of the village. Three Pines is the soft landing, the open arms, the place at the table. In an often cruel and turbulent world, where physical safety can never be guaranteed, it is a place where we are emotionally safe. Because we are accepted. It is a place of friendship, of belonging, of acceptance and inclusion. No matter who you are. No matter what we believe. No one is turned away.

I just needed you to know that I did fight. And lost. But there is much to also commend the series, otherwise I wouldn’t be promoting it. I will always be honest with you.

That ridiculous misstep aside, I think you’ll like the trailer.

Hillary Rodham Clinton And Louise Penny’s Novel ‘State Of Terror’ To Be Adapted Into Feature Film

From Deadline:

Madison Wells, Gigi Pritzker’s award-winning, independent entertainment company, has acquired and will develop a feature adaptation of State of Terror, the best-selling novel by former Secretary of State, U.S. Senator and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and New York Times best-selling novelist Louise Penny. This high-stakes thriller of international intrigue follows novice Secretary of State Ellen Adams, who is unexpectedly brought into the administration by a newly-elected President, her political and personal adversary. Events soon erupt that sweep her into a world of global intrigue and diplomacy where the stakes could not be higher and the potential consequences, both personal and global, could not be greater.

Both Clinton and Penny will serve as Executive Producers as well as consultants on the film, whilst HiddenLight Productions (founded by Hillary Clinton, Sam Branson and Chelsea Clinton) will produce.  Pritzker and Head of Film and TV Rachel Shane will produce for Madison Wells.

THREE PINES: The TV series

Amazon Prime Video and Left Bank Pictures have begun production on the scripted Canadian Amazon Original Drama Series “Three Pines,” based on the bestselling Chief Inspector Gamache novels by Louise Penny. Alfred Molina will star as Gamache.

The series follows Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (Alfred Molina) of the Sûreté du Québec, a man who sees things that others do not: the light between the cracks, the mythic in the mundane, and the evil in the seemingly ordinary. As he investigates a spate of murders in Three Pines, a seemingly idyllic village, he discovers long-buried secrets and faces a few of his own ghosts. Additional cast members include Rossif Sutherland, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, Tantoo Cardinal, Clare Coulter, Sarah Booth, Anna Tierney, Julian Bailey, Frédéric-Antoine Guimond, Pierre Simpson, Tamara Brown, Marie-France Lambert, Frank Schorpion, Marcel Jeannin, Georgina Lynn Lightning, Crystle Lightning, Isabel Deroy-Olson, and Anna Lambe.

Louise Penny’s highly acclaimed, best-selling mystery series has won the CWA New Blood Dagger award, as well as multiple Agatha, Anthony, Dilys, and Arthur Ellis awards. In 2021, a reader survey conducted by The Washington Post named Chief Inspector Armand Gamache the most beloved fictional detective, beating out such characters as Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot.

“With Three Pines we continue to grow our slate of local originals, and overall investment in Canada,” said Christina Wayne, head of Canadian Originals at Amazon Studios. “The series will be our first locally produced scripted drama, and we are thrilled to work with Left Bank to bring these layered characters, unique setting, and masterfully constructed mysteries that Louise created to Prime Video. Alfred Molina perfectly embodies the cerebral and compassionate nature of Gamache, and leads a tremendous cast.”

“Alfred Molina is one of my favorite actors and it’s thrilling to be working with him again,” said Andy Harries, chief executive officer, Left Bank Pictures. “His warmth, talent, and charisma are perfect to play Louise Penny’s much-adored Inspector Gamache. We are privileged to be shooting Three Pines, as our first-ever series in Canada, and bringing the originality and popularity of her incredible stories to a worldwide audience.”

Michael Whitehead: R.I.P.

Sad news. Louise Penny's husband Michael Whitehead has passed away at the age of 82. He was such a lovely man--witty, kind, and so proud of Louise. I always enjoyed talking with him at conventions.

Dr. Michael Whitehead, former Director of Hematology at the Montreal Children's Hospital and husband of bestselling author Louise Penny, died at his home Sunday night at the age of 82.
Whitehead's health had been declining over the last few years, ever since he was diagnosed with dementia.

"Michael passed away last night, at home, at peace, with love," his wife Louise Penny posted on her Facebook page on Monday afternoon. "'It's not so much that his heart stopped, as that he'd finally given it all away. Surprised by joy."

Read Louise Penny's comments about life after her husband's dementia diagnosis.
